The British and Irish Lions opened poorly with this first encounter. O Driscoll s class was missed from very early on when he suffered a dislocated shoulder ending his tour prematurely. With the Captain missing the Lions appeared to lack a cutting edge with the All Blacks constantly looking to make ground and tackle behind the gain line. The game never slowed down to the power plan the Lions wanted to dictate the pace, but with the All Blacks dominating both their and the Lions line out this not only resulted in the first try for Ali Williams but also starved the Lions of vital first phase ball , to his credit man of the match Chris Jack played havoc with Shane Byrne and his lineout jumpers. The scrum was also an area the All Blacks put unexpected pressure. Conditions were poor but the home side appeared to cope with the rain far better than the Tourists and some slick handling after a pacey break allowed the left wing Sivivatu to score.Leaving the scores at 21-0. As final consolation Wilkinson replied with a late penalty to end matters at 21-3 to the All Blacks and deservedly so.

In all the British and Irish Lions were out played in virtually every aspect of the game although Ryan Jones was the pick of the team when he came on as substitute. Henry has kept his cards close to his chest all the way through the campaign and his game plan and tactics left nothing to chance.

It's now over to Sir Clive to show his World Cup winning qualities to help rebuild moral and come up with some answers to the style of play the All Blacks have adopted for the series.
